BROOKFIELD – The Brookfield Library Board and Friends of the Brookfield Library were present during the start of the demolition phase of the United Methodist Church, 3541 Park Ave., as part of the Library Improvement Plan Thursday.

“The demolition that is about to take place will open the door to a new future for the Brookfield library,” Library Board President Jennifer Perry said.  “We should all take pride in the fact that we are present to witness the dawn of a new era. I welcome the new beginning that starts today and I’m grateful for everyone’s contributions and insight into shaping the library’s next 100 years, especially the Library Board of Trustees and Village of Brookfield leaders.”

The Brookfield Library purchased the United Methodist Church in November 2012 and received preliminary planned unit development approval by the Village of Brookfield in December. Environmental abatement of the former church buildings was completed in June. Church structures are expected to be demolished in two phases with demolition work that will last around four weeks, including removing an underground storage tank used for heating purposes.

The final phase of the project includes seeding the lot, which will be used for Library programming, as well as to celebrate the library’s 100-year anniversary in June 2014.

A Library Improvement Plan page is available on the library's website at It will be continually updated to include project information, schedules, and construction and traffic information.
