DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Village Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve 14 new townhomes in the Fairmount Village II subdivision.
The village plan commission recommended the developer's requested zoning amendments at a June meeting.
The project has two, seven-unit townhouse buildings on 1.45 acres at 950 75th St.
Each building would have seven, 2,100-square-foot townhouses, according to plan commission documents.
The Fairmount Village II neighborhood was approved in 1984, and the new townhomes will fill a lot previously occupied by a single family home that was destroyed by a fire in 2009, according to village documents.
At the June 3 plan commission meeting, several residents expressed concerns regarding increased traffic, stormwater, construction timeframes and landscaping, according to village documents.
But the plan commission believes the development will minimally increase traffic and that the proposed improvements will comply with village stormwater management ordinances and other rules. The developer also submitted a revised landscape plan which includes additional landscaping.
The zoning amendments approved by the council increases the residential density of the area and adds the development to the Fairmount Village II plan.
