BOLINGBROOK – A man was found severely injured, possibly beaten, near the 400 block of Salem Square Monday morning, according to the Bolingbrook Police Department.

About 5:38 a.m. Monday, local police and fire units responded to the report of an injured subject lying in the grass between the east side of Central Park and the 400 block of Salem Square, police said.

The man was "semi conscious and breathing," but was unable to speak to police officers, according to Bolingbrook Police Lt. Mike Rompa.

The subject was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, and was then air-lifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood to treat sustained head trauma, Rompa said.

The incident is being investigated as a "possible battery," police said.
