BOLINGBROOK – Residents can now purchase raffle tickets for the Bolingbrook Rotary Club's largest annual scholarship fundraiser – en event that involves $1,750 in prize money and cow defecation.
The 2013 Raise-A-Stink raffle will be held in conjunction with the Bolingbrook Park District Summer’s Last Blast 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at Volunteer Park.
The Rotary Club is currently selling raffle tickets, referred to as "leases," for the annual Raise-A-Stink raffle. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for students, dictionaries for third graders and donations to many local nonprofit organizations.
For those unfamiliar or new to the the Raise-A-Stink festivities, a herd of cattle will be brought to Volunteer Park Aug. 24 and placed in a pen, which is prospected and divided into square blocks. Each lease corresponds to one block, and the placement of the block will be determined by a random drawing prior to the event.
The cows will then be brought onto the field, and the areas that are defecated upon will be deemed winning blocks. A panel of judges will be on hand to settle any disputes.
First place will be awarded $1,000, second place receives $500 and third place gets $250.
Leases are currently available for $5 each, or six for $25.
The Bolingbrook Rotary Club's mission is to help community leaders get involved in their communities, connect with other professionals, share their time and experience with young people and use professional skills to help others.
