Robert Pechous, former state rep, Berwyn Township supervisor dies at 79
BERWYN – Robert C. Pechous will be remembered by some as a school teacher, by others as a state representative and more still as city of Berwyn Clerk and Berwyn Township supervisor. He was a man of many hats.
”Bob” Pechous, a life-long resident of Berwyn, died July 9 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was 79.
Mr Pechous was a school teacher in Chicago before he served as the city clerk of Berwyn for eight years. He was elected and served three terms in the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the western suburbs in the Illinois General Assembly.
Mr. Pechous was later appointed executive director of the newly formed Berwyn Development Corporation.
He also served as a Marine Corps Sargant during the Korean War.
In 1985, Mr. Pechous was elected to the office of Berwyn Township supervisor and president of the Berwyn Public Health District, and served in that capacity until he retired in 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children, Rebecca, Timothy and Cora. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Pechous. He is survived by their children Robert and Laura Gray.
In lieu of flowers, the requests a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of their choice, as an appropriate memoriam.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Zimmerman - Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 Madison St., Forest Park.
