LYONS – Lyons celebrated its 125th anniversary during the annual July 4 fireworks display in Smith Park.

To celebrate Lyon's 125th year as a municipality, the fireworks display was amped up this year.

"I was told the fireworks were so impressive that drivers were pulling off on Ogden to watch," Lyons Mayor Christopher Getty said in a news release.

Other residents agreed.

"I am never disappointed with the fireworks here in Lyons," said Eddie WIlkowski, "but this year they were incredible."

Getty said the fireworks symbolized the city's strides to better their parks, recreation and family-oriented activities.

The fireworks display concluded the day of celebration including events such as a village parade along Joliet Avenue and a kid's party in Veteran Park.
