DuPage County Sheriff collects more than 500 pounds of illegal fireworks

DUPAGE COUNTY – During the first seven days of July, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office handled more than 100 calls relating to fireworks and collected more than 500 pounds of illegal fireworks, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The collection was part of a county-wide push under Sheriff John Zaruba to step up patrols around the unincorporated areas of the county looking for possible fireworks violations, according to the release. The fireworks collected ranged from consumer grade firecrackers to commercial grade large aerial display shells. All fireworks in that range are illegal under Illinois law, according to the release.
