Glenbard East grad scores highlight reel bicycle kick in nationally televised friendly

CHICAGO – Former Glenbard East star and Northwestern's all-time leading goal scorer, Matt Eliason, scored a bicycle kick on Saturday at Soldier Field in the Messi & Friends exhibition match.

Soccer superstar Lionel Messi hosted a charity exhibition and several other stars, including former U.S. Men's National Team captain Carlos Bocanegra, took part. Former Northwestern players filled out the lineups.

Eliason, who graduated from NU in 2011, converted the textbook bicycle kick on a pass from current New York Red Bulls star Thierry Henry in the 28th minute. The video is a YouTube sensation, drawing millions of views.

Eliason later scored again on a header in the second half.
