VILLA PARK – Chicago Bears quarterback Matt Blanchard will discuss leadership and character both on and off the field at Willowbrook High School.
Joining Blanchard will be former NFL running back Nate Turner (Buffalo Bills/Carolina Panthers) and former NFL quarterback, owner of Throw It Deep quarterback academy and founder of Do It Right, Jeff Christensen, Friday, July 19 at 8 a.m.
According to Nick Hildreth, varsity football coach at Willowbrook, the Do It Right message that Christensen delivers is essential for athletes to embrace.
“Jeff Christensen and the current and former NFL players he assembles to talk to today’s youth do an unbelievable job teaching student-athletes about making positive choices and going about everyday the right way," Hildreth said. "Bringing the Do It Right Program to Willowbrook is an important step for our program to continue moving in a positive direction.”
Blanchard, who attended Lake Zurich High School before playing college football at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, knows the pressures student-athletes face both on and off the field.
“Society throws a lot of distractions at today’s youth," Blanchard said. "Do it Right is a leadership program that all schools, teams and companies should live by. The Creed is a great daily reminder of how to live your life with discipline and integrity.”
Christensen started Do It Right two years ago in an effort to inspire today’s youth to make decisions and be accountable for their actions.
“I’ve been working with kids for nearly 20 years and have watched them struggle to do the right thing and determine what exactly the right thing is in their lives," Christensen said. "All too often, I’ve seen good kids make careless mistakes that have cost them opportunities on the field, in the classroom and in life. Today’s social media frenzy allows them to see things, do things and be exploited in the push of a button. Do It Right focuses on good decision-making and encourages kids to make a positive impact on their peers and community."
