Meals on Wheels volunteer honored after rescue in Naperville

NAPERVILLE – A “Meals on Wheels” volunteer with the DuPage Senior Citizens Council (DSCC) delivered something even more critical than food recently in Naperville. 

While bringing a homebound DSCC client his daily meal, Gerry Blidy arrived to hear the elderly man calling for help through his apartment door.

Building maintenance was notified, and the door was opened to find the man on the floor. He had fallen backwards while getting dressed and had managed to roll onto his stomach but did not have the strength to get up.

DSCC staff and volunteers regularly encounter such situations in the course of conducting approximately 12,000 Well Being Checks each month on elderly program participants.
