Bond set at half million for West Chicago teen charged in shooting
WEST CHICAGO – Bond was set at $500,000 for a West Chicago teen accused of shooting an unarmed man July 2, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.
The 15-year-old boy from West Chicago was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony, according to the release.
The boy allegedly encountered an acquaintance with an 18-year-old man at about 1:30 p.m. July 2 on Blakely Street between Blair and Stimmel streets in West Chicago, the release states.
It is alleged that the encounter led to a verbal altercation that ended when the boy pulled a handgun on the two men and fired, striking the 18-year-old in the shoulder and causing an injury that is not life threatening, according to the release. The boy then allegedly fled the scene.
West Chicago police officers who were on patrol nearby heard the gunfire and headed to the scene, apprehending the boy after a brief chase, the release states.
Calderon is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Aug. 5, according to the release.
