WHEATON – Seven people were arrested and about 30 kilos of cocaine and heroin were seized as part of an investigation of what officials say is a three-county drug trafficking organization, according to a news release from DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin.
The arrests were the result of a three-year investigation by area law enforcement and the office of Homeland Security Investigations into a Guerrero-based organization that brings drugs into DuPage County and then disperses them throughout DuPage, McHenry and Cook counties, said Paul Darrah, a spokesman for the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
The total amount of drugs seized has a street value in the millions, the release said.
While the names of those arrested have been released, other information, including place of residence and age, is being withheld because the investigation is ongoing, Darrah said.
Javier Garcia Gomez, Domingo Guillen, Juan Espera Pegraza, Rene Rojo, David Salgado, Erika Salgado-Pineda and Leslie Salgado-Pineda were indicted on criminal drug conspiracy charges, a Class Super X felony, and charged with possession with the intent to deliver, a Class X felony.
A Class Super X felony is punishable by 15 to 60 years in prison and a Class X felony can result in 6 to 30 years.
