Pet Camp brings kids face-to-face with animals

HINSDALE – They might be called the “dog days” of summer, but the children who participated in Hinsdale Humane Society’s Pet Camp learned about much more than canines.

Over the course of one week, the HHS Pet Camp allowed campers going into fourth through sixth grades to gain hands-on experience with animals in educational settings such as the Brookfield Zoo, Mayslake Forest Preserve and Double J. Riding Club.

Some of the activities included handling a corn snake and domestic rabbit at the zoo, grooming and tacking horses, solving a forest creature mystery and interacting with a service dog.

The August session of Pet Camp will meet from Aug. 5 to 9.
