Malfunction could leave Western Springs residents with hard water

WESTERN SPRINGS – Two sets of iron-removal equipment in the village's water network malfunctioned and had to be taken offline this week.

Residents might find dissolved solids in their water until the units are repaired, the village said on its website Wednesday. Water could also be harder than normal, as the devices help to soften water.

The village is waiting to receive equipment it ordered to clean one set of the iron-removal equipment, while plant operators and engineers are working to determine the cause of the fault on the other one.
