La Grange Park warns residents about illegal fireworks

Published: Thursday, July 4, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

LA GRANGE PARK – The village of La Grange Park sent out an email Wednesday reminding residents that Illinois prohibits the sale and discharge of fireworks.

On a typical Fourth of July, fireworks accidents cause more fires in the U.S. than all other causes combined, the note said. Even fireworks that are thought to be safe by many, like sparklers, reach temperatures of 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit, nearly three times the temperature of a kitchen oven, the village said.

The note went on to say that in addition to the risk of injury, response to illegal fireworks can tie up village resources, such as emergency responders.

Additional information about fireworks danger can be found on the National Fire Protection Association website, nfpa.org.
