ELMHURST – GreenFest aims to educate Elmhurst residents and surrounding community members about reducing environmental impacts at a celebration in August.
Guest speakers, green vendors and kids activities welcome families to enjoy the day in Wilder Park. Each children's project is scheduled to coincide with an environmental class led by the Elmhurst Park District Environmental Education staff so kids and parents can participate at the same time.
Kids activities include an Adaptation Art Class where children will learn the importance of webbed feet and big beaks before building their own bird sculpture from recycled materials.
Elmhurst College and Elmhurst Cool Cities will provide a tour of a green home to demonstrate techniques for home energy efficiency. A specialist from The Conservation Foundation will also give a workshop on sustainable landscaping techniques that can help control rain water and flooding.
GreenFest is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. August 3 at Wilder Park, 175 Prospect Avenue.
Visit www.elmhurstgreenfest.org for more information and a list of small recyclables that will be collected.
