CAROL STREAM – DUI arrest rates in Carol Stream and neighboring areas are among the highest in the state, according to the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists.
Carol Stream, Hanover Park and Itasca saw increases in DUI arrests from 2011 to 2012.
Itasca had the highest DUI arrest rate of communities with 200 arrests or more a year, with 11.78 percent per officer. With 23 sworn officers, Itasca police made 271 DUI arrests and were ranked 13th in the state. The department had a 2.7 percent increase from 2011, during which 264 DUI arrests were made. Sgt. Barry Kauther of Itasca was the 15th top cop in the state, making 104 DUI arrests in 2012.
Carol Stream had the second-highest DUI arrest rate, at 6.59 percent per officer. The sixth highest in DUI arrests, Carol Stream had 389 arrests in 2012 with a 11.5 percent increase from 349 arrests in 2011.
Hanover Park had the eighth highest arrest rate at 3.9 percent per officer. With 238 DUI arrests, Hanover Park saw a 25.9 percent increase from 189 arrests in 2011. The department was the 15th highest for DUI arrests in the state.
