Hinsdale Police Department advises residents leaving on vacation
HINSDALE – The Hinsdale Police Department has released a series of crime prevention tips for residents who are traveling away from home during the holiday season.
According to police, the No. 1 prevention tip is to make the house look "lived in" when away. This includes not letting items pile up in the mailbox or on the porch. Instead, arrange for a neighbor to gather the items.
The department also encourages setting timers for interior and exterior lights, radio and televisions, making sure the garage is secured, assuring that alarms are in working condition and leaving emergency contact information with someone, or the department.
Residents can also notify the police department and request a vacation watch.
The Hinsdale Police Department has reported this year that burglaries in the area have been higher than normal and is encouraging residents to not hesitate calling the department to report any suspicious activities.
