DOWNERS GROVE

Residents report teens playing ‘mailbox baseball’

Neighbors told police a group of teens in a new, white SUV allegedly played “mailbox baseball” at 9:55 p.m. June 25 in the 1300 block of Hawkins Avenue.

Police found one dented mailbox and two lying in the street, knocked off their posts in the area. Police did not find the vehicle or suspects.

Men burglarize home

A group of men pretending to check a residence in the 1200 block of Hawkins Avenue for a cause of flooding allegedly stole a wedding ring, a diamond pendant, two diamond rings, a checkbook and $300 in cash at 3:30 p.m. June 17, according to police.

The men drove a dark-colored crossover-style SUV. Police did not locate the suspects.

Thefts/burglaries reported

• A woman told police someone took her purse when she set it down in the beer tent at GroveFest between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. June 23.

• A resident in the 5800 block of Meade Road told police she suspects workers installing flooring in her home took two 22k gold necklaces between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. June 17.

• The driver of a green Lexus told police someone smashed a passenger side window and took a black Coach messenger bag between 2:45 and 4:45 p.m. June 22 while the car was parked in the 5500 block of Fairview Avenue.

• Someone took a 35mm camera and video recorder from a vehicle parked in the 5317 block of Washington Street between June 10 and June 21.

• The driver of a Ford Contour told police that between 6 and 6:50 p.m. June 25 someone smashed front passenger window of his vehicle while it was parked in the 700 block of 59th Street. The victim told police his wallet was taken from the car. There are no suspects.

Property damage reported

Someone damaged a mailbox between 10:30 and 10:33 p.m. June 18 in the 1300 block of 67th Place.

DUI charges

• Veronika A. Moya, 40, 4922 Prospect Ave., Downers Grove, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to report an accident, failure to give information, failure to reduce speed and no insurance at 3:52 p.m. June 20 at Franklin Street and Douglas Road.

• Fernando Ibarra, 28, 1219 E. 13th St., Lombard, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 2:34 a.m. June 25 at Main and Curtiss streets.

Marijuana possession charged

Kevin A. Slayton, 17, 7623 Clarendon Hills Road, Willowbrook, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:03 p.m. June 25 at Carpenter Street and Gilbert Avenue.

Domestic battery charges

• Brayton J. Ratley, 19, 7306 Winthrop Way, Downers Grove, was charged with two counts of domestic battery at 4:20 p.m Thursday at his residence.

• Jake A. Rak, 19, 823 Claremont Drive, Downers Grove, was charged with domestic battery and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 11:52 p.m. June 26 at his residence.

• Jeremy R. Blizzard, 23, 4906 Belmont Road, Downers Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 6:37 p.m. June 26 at the Belmont Depot.

Disorderly conduct charged

Cody A. Colbert, 28, 7605 W. 63rd St., Summit, was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass after causing a disturbance at GroveFest at 10:45 p.m. June 22.

Theft charges

• Russell P. Cochran, 70, 2802 S. Cuyler Ave., Berwyn, was charged with retail theft at 10:01 a.m. June 25 in the 800 block of Burlington Avenue.

• Kody L. Fitzwilliam, 25, 17142 Sterling Court, Lockport, was charged with retail theft for allegedly stealing a Lil’ Wayne CD at 7:38 p.m. June 25 in the 3300 block of Finley Road.
