LEMONT – Lemont-Bromberek Community School District 113A has agreed to a new one-year contract with Business Manager Barbara Germany, who had previously announced she was leaving the district for a job in Peotone during the Board of Education's June 19 meeting.
The board voted five to two in favor of the contract during an emergency meeting held June 28. The new contract started July 1.
"I'm absolutely thrilled at the opportunity," Germany said. "Just to be able to continue to work with the community on the path towards financial excellence and continued student achievement."
The details of the contract are not available at this time.
"We countered the offer because she is an excellent employee and it would probably have cost us more to bring in an interim," President Cindy Kelly said.
Vice President Dave Molitor and board member David Deitemyer voted against the contract.
"It wasn't the contract, but more the process," Molitor said, when asked why he voted no.
Molitor said the board was not breaking any local or state policies, but that it is normal procedure for the superintendent to make a recommendation to the board on who should fill the position in such a situation.
He said the board had to speed up the process because Germany's contract was set to expire July 1. Superintendent Susan Birkenmaier was on vacatiion the week that the vote took place, although she did attend the emergency meeting.
Though he voted against the contract, Molitor said he was happy with the result of Germany being offered the position.
"I believe Mrs. Germany is a great fit for this district," he said.
