Qdoba to close restaurants in Glen Ellyn, Wheaton

Two Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurants in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton are among 18 locations in the Chicago area and 67 nationwide expected to close their doors June 28.

The Jack in the Box Inc.-owned fast food chain announced the closings this month and revealed the list of affected stores on its Facebook page June 26.

The Glen Ellyn and Wheaton locations, 589 Roosevelt Road and 2001 S. Naperville Road, respectively, are expected to close their doors about 3 p.m. June 28, along with stores in Downers Grove, Woodridge, Elmhurst and Oakbrook Terrace, among others.

The Qdoba located at 2202 N. Main St. in Wheaton will remain open.

The closings come after a review of the restaurants' sales, cash flow and other performance metrics was initiated when new Qdoba president Tim Casey came on board in March.

He said in a news release that the company will be able to better focus its advertising and marketing to support its other locations in the wake of the closings.

The plan is part of a larger reorganization of the chain that will also include many new locations opening.

At the end of the second business quarter in 2013, Qdoba had 647 restaurants, 340 of which were company operated.

Between 70 and 75 new locations are expected to open in fiscal year 2013, including approximately 40 company-owned locations. In 2014, 60 to 70 new Qdoba restaurants are expected to open, about half of which will be company locations.
