Lemont's 2013 spring sports highlight reel

Highlight: In Lemont's first season under head coach Brian Storako, the Indians dominated the South Suburban Blue conference and claimed the outright title. The squad finished 18-1 in league play, and individually, Mike Papierski was selected as the conference player of the year. Notching 23 wins on the spring, Lemont lost 3-0 to eventual Class 3A state champion Joliet Catholic in the regional final.

.390: Lemont's team batting average this spring. The Indians were led by Rylie Jay (.584), Carly Jaworski (.425), Rachel Hall (.400) and Anna Smagacz (.400).
Highlight: Behind a complete-game, two-hit pitching performance from Carly Jaworski, Lemont captured the outright South Suburban Blue conference title with a 1-0 victory over Oak Forest. Finishing 17-2 in league play, the Indians went on to capture the Queen of Peace regional title with a 4-0 win over the host school as Jaworski allowed three hits while striking out 11. The young squad, which featured just three seniors on the roster, advanced to the Nazareth sectional final where they lost 6-5 to eventual Class 3A state champion Glenbard South.

3: State trophies captured by the Indians in the past five years. In that span, Lemont has finished second, third and fourth.
Highlight: A young Indians squad entered the 2013 season with few expectations but that quickly changed after going 10-2-2 in April. Cruising to another South Suburban Blue conference title before notching regional and sectional championships, Lemont played arguably its best game in the May 28 supersectional. The Indians emerged with a 3-1 victory over host Normal West behind goals from Reilley Sullivan, Nicole McKevitt and Madelyn Bermele.

22: Points scored by the Indians at the Joliet West sectional, which resulted in the team's first-ever sectional championship.
Highlight: May 18 turned out to be a memorable day for Lemont's boys tennis program, which captured its first sectional title after sitting atop the standings at the Joliet West event. Sophomore Nick Urban qualified for the state meet in singles after placing third while the doubles team of Alex Vasic and Jake Smagacz also moved on courtesy of their third-place showing.
4: Increase in victories within the South Suburban Conference this spring compared to a season ago. Lemont finished 7-7 in league play in 2013.
Highlight: For a relatively young Indians program, the 2013 season was a major step in the right direction. With every starter back from 2012, Lemont wrapped up the spring with a 17-15 overall record. More importantly, after winning their first-ever regional match last season, the Indians picked up a pair of postseason victories this time around before losing 27-25, 31-29 to Plainfield East in the Bolingbrook regional final. Mike Krueger topped the Indians with 323 kills. Adam Strube totaled 150 digs and Ryan Leadley dished out 587 assists.
