Glenbard North 2013 spring sports highlight reel

60: Victories posted by the Panthers in the past two seasons. Glenbard North won 26 games this spring after going 34-3 a year ago.

Highlight: Despite falling short in its bid to win back-to-back DuPage Valley Conference championships, Glenbard North still put forth a strong 2013 campaign. Led by their veteran infield of Heather Sperlazzo, Alex Caliva, Sydney Benz and Steph Campos and the battery of pitcher Lindsey Cherry and catcher Ashley Stiver, the Panthers captured the Schaumburg regional title with an 8-6 win over the host Saxons. The squad went on to defeat South Elgin 6-1 in a sectional semifinal before losing 7-6 to eventual Class 4A runner-up St. Charles East.

17: Games this spring in which Glenbard North allowed three runs or less.

Highlight: During a 17-day stretch in April, the Panthers ran off nine consecutive wins. Eight of those victories came within the DuPage Valley Conference as the squad swept both West Chicago and Glenbard East and won a pair of games against West Aurora. Glenbard North allowed just 14 runs with Kyle Crites and Matt Frawley each notching three wins on the mound during the streak.

56.27: Time that Simone Carr posted in the 400-meter dash at the state prelims, which was .56 faster than her clocking at the sectional. In the final, Carr crossed the line in 56.49.

Highlight: A broken toe suffered in last year's sectional kept Glenbard North's Simone Carr from coming home with a medal at the state meet. This time around, the junior accomplished her goal of standing atop the awards platform after placing sixth in the Class 3A 400-meter dash. Senior teammate Kailey James also ended her Panthers career with a fourth appearance at the state meet.

2: Victories posted by Matt Krzyzaniak in two trips to the state meet. This spring, he beat Connor Vandersnick of Geneseo 6-3, 6-2 in the consolation round.

Highlight: Matt Krzyzaniak capped his Glenbard North tennis career the same way he finished the first year, with a trip to the state meet. The senior this spring qualified for state for a third time. As a freshman, he competed in doubles; he advanced in singles this year and in 2012. Krzyzaniak punched his ticket this spring with a third-place showing at the Geneva sectional
