Downers Grove, Woodridge Qdoba among 18 Chicago area locations to close this week
DOWNERS GROVE – Qdoba Mexican Grill in Downers Grove is among 18 locations in the Chicago area and 67 nationwide expected to close their doors this Friday.
The Jack in the Box Inc.-owned fast food chain announced the closings this month and revealed the list of affected stores on its Facebook page Wednesday.
The Downers Grove location, 1400 Butterfield Road, is expected to close its doors about 3 p.m. Friday, along with stores in Woodridge, Elmhurst, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Oakbrook Terrace, among others.
The closings come after a review of the restaurants' sales, cash flow and other performance metrics initiated when new Qdoba president Tim Casey joined in March. He said in a news release that the company will be able to better focus its advertising and marketing to support its other locations.
Jack in the Box spokesperson Brian Luscomb said the company is still deciding what to do with the soon-to-be vacant buildings.
After Friday's closings, eight Qdobas will remain in the Chicago area, six of which are company run and two of which are franchises.
"Those remaining company locations are performing well," Luscomb said.
The plan is part of a larger reorganization of the chain that will also include many new locations opening.
At the end of the second business quarter in 2013, Qdoba had 647 restaurants, 340 of which are company operated.
Between 70 and 75 new locations are expected to open in Fiscal 2013, including approximately 40 company-owned locations. In 2014, it expects 60 to 70 new Qdoba restaurants to open, about half of which will be company locations, according to the company.
