Storm takes toll on wires, trees in Berwyn
BERWYN – Monday's storm knocked down trees that blocked streets, and left many without power to watch the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup, as a result of downed power lines.
Firefighters responded to 90 weather-related calls, largely in the south Berwyn area, fire officials said. Most of the severe damage was reported between Harlem and East avenues, south of Ogden Avenue.
A tree was reported down in the backyard of 3801 Wisconsin Ave., taking down all power lines and blocking 38th Street. Trees were also reported of trees down in backyards and an alley in the vicinity.
A large tree in the backyard of 3720 Ridgeland Ave. split and took the chimney down on the roof of a three-flat apartment. The building was evacuated. Numerous other houses within the area reported damage caused by trees.
