Storm causes garage fire, outages in La Grange
LA GRANGE – About 100 households were still without power around noon Tuesday after a quick but violent storm struck the western suburbs Monday evening.
About 1,400 residences were without power at one point, Fire Chief Bill Bryzgalski said. Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, immediately after the storm hit, a downed power line started a fire on a garage in the first block of South Seventh Avenue. Firefighters arrived immediately and were on the scene for about two and a half hours, which included waiting for a ComEd crew, Bryzgalski said. No one was injured.
The storm knocked down a dozen trees on village property, Public Works Director Ryan Gillingham said. Crews were out cutting broken branches from parkway trees and picking up other debris.
