ST. FRANCIS BASEBALL

13: Runs allowed during the Spartans eight-game winning streak to close the season which ended with a 5-0 loss to Joliet Catholic in the Class 3A championship game.

Highlight: The Spartans' 7-3 victory over Metamora in the Rock Island supersectional guaranteed the program's first-ever state trophy. St. Francis then went on to beat Grayslake Central, 6-3, in the state semifinals behind the pitching of Jack Petrando and three RBIs from Tim Zettinger before losing 5-0 to Joliet Catholic in the Class 3A final.

ST. FRANCIS SOFTBALL

88: Combined hits by Alyssa Fernandez and Aly Germanos this spring, which included 24 doubles, nine triples and 11 home runs.

Highlight: Coming off a strong 2012 season which included a trip to the sectional final, the Spartans didn't skip a beat this spring. St. Francis won 25 games and captured a regional title before falling to Elmwood Park on a walkoff homer in the sectional.

ST. FRANCIS SOCCER

3: Goals allowed by the Spartans in 15 regular-season games. St. Francis allowed only two more in four playoff games.

Highlight: While the Spartans didn't ultimately defend their Class 2A title after losing to Fenwick, 1-0, in a sectional final, St. Francis still accomplished many great things this spring. The squad rattled off 14 consecutive victories to begin the season, which included wins over DuPage Valley Conference-opponents Glenbard North and West Chicago.

WEST CHICAGO SOCCER

16: Goals scored this spring by senior Andie Lazzerini, who also added 10 assists.

Highlight: The Wildcats' best stretch of the 2013 season might just have come in a three-day period in early May. West Chicago began with a 3-0 win over West Aurora which was followed up by a 3-1 decision over Bartlett and a 1-0 victory against Downers Grove North. Those three consecutive wins helped push the Wildcats final record over .500.

WHEATON ACADEMY SOFTBALL

.608: Batting average this spring for Marissa Gagliano, who added 37 runs scored.

Highlight: Through her first two seasons in a Wheaton Academy uniform, Marissa Gagliano reached base at least once in every game she had played. That impressive run was halted this season in late April as an 0-for-4 performance against Rosary brought the streak to an end at 56 games. The junior, who has one more season in a Warriors uniform, will continue her career at Radford University.
