Bolingbrook Chamber hosts annual State of the Chamber address
BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Michael Carpanzano believes that the future of local business expansion rests in community partnerships and improving communication strategies.
During an afternoon luncheon June 25, Carpanzano – who was named the chamber president March 4 – delivered his first "State of the Chamber" presentation at the Bolingbrook Golf Club in front of 80 of the organization's members.
The 27-year-old chamber head spoke about the "immense strides" made by the organization and local businesses during his first four months, specifically, improved communication styles and active community engagement.
"Before taking over as president, I felt that the one thing the chamber was lacking was community engagement," Carpanzano said, addressing the audience. "There are a ton of businesses here that want to reach a consumer base. Bolingbrook consumers know who we are, what we do and they call us when they need recommendations. I wanted to make sure you guys are reaching a different base than you were before."
He continued, explaining that this initial goal has been achieved, in part, because of chamber members' and local business' social media awareness.
"Although social media is not an end-all, be-all, it has been a great, useful tool," Carpanzano said. "I have seen all of you interacting with our Facebook and Twitter feeds, and we get comments on both every day."
He credits the social media strategies for the chamber's addition of 50 new members since March.
Looking towards the future, Carpanzano stressed that local business to business partnerships will help connectivity, visibility, growth and a sense of community.
"It is crucial that we all support other agencies' events," Carpanzano said. "... We will continue to grow by supporting others."
Carpanzano also lobbied members to support and participate in one or more upcoming chamber events such as the Taste of Bolingbrook, Octoberfest, a health fair and regular ribbon cuttings and after-hours business meetings.
"The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce makes it our goal to help you succeed," Carpanzano said. "But we also want you to get the most out of your memberships. A lot of these events are free, and all are a great way to network and meet other local business leaders."
