Berwyn garage fire believed started by burning trash

A garage at 1440 S. Oak Park Avenue was damaged by fire about 4 p.m. Monday. Two vehicle in the garage were heavily damaged. The cause of the fire has not been determined but fire officials believe it may have started in a trash can outside of the garage.

BERWYN – A garage fire was reported at 1440 S. Oak Park Avenue at 4:40 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but two vehicles in the garage and other items had substantial damage.

A garage to the south had damage to the vinyl siding.

The fire appears to have started in a trash can outside of the building, but he actual cause has yet to be determined, Fire Chief Denis O'Halloran said.
