Westmont's Donovan, Lisle's Ventrella and Van Volkenburg earn all-state honors

Trio earns recognition from Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association

Westmont High School junior-to-be Charlie Donovan and recent Lisle High School graduates Ryan Van Volkenburg and Alex Ventrella were recently named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 2A all-state team.

Donovan, a University of Michigan recruit, led the Sentinels in nearly every major offensive category as they tied a program record for wins and captured a conference title for the first time in 35 years, winning the Interstate Eight North with a 13-3 mark.

Van Volkenburg and Ventrella were both key pieces to Lisle's run to the Class 2A title this spring. Van Volkenburg batted .360 with 34 runs scored, 22 RBIs and a team-high 11 doubles. He also went 6-1 on the mound, including a 2-1 complete-game win over Teutopolis in the state semifinal game.

Ventrella, a left-handed pitcher, was Lisle's staff ace and finished the year with a 7-1 record, a 0.96 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 65.2 innings pitched, and he was the starter for the Lions' in the state championship game. Ventrella also batted .260 with 15 runs and 14 RBIs this spring.
