WESTERN SPRINGS – Western Springs police will join hundreds of law enforcement agencies around the state in two special enforcement campaigns aimed at keeping residents safe during the Fourth of July holiday.
As part of Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket, officers will increase traffic enforcement from June 28 to July 7 to focus on impaired driving and unbuckled drivers.
The Fourth of July is one of the most dangerous holidays on the country's roadways because of an increased number of impaired drivers, police said in a news release. In 2011, over 300 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in Illinois, according to the Illinois Secretary of State's office.
Police remind the public to designate a sober driver and to wear seatbelts.
