Suspect shot during alleged armed robbery at Oakbrook Center

OAK BROOK – One suspect is in custody after being shot and police are looking for two others in an alleged armed robbery Sunday of CD Peacock Jewelry Store, 172 Oakbrook Center, police said.

At 3:40 p.m., three men entered the store, according to Oak Brook Police. One allegedly used a sledge hammer to smash the top of a glass display case. An armed security guard at the store confronted the man with the hammer, as the other two suspects escaped. Police found the man with the sledgehammer with a bullet wound to the abdomen.

The two suspects at large fled in a black SUV, possibly a Jeep Liberty, west on 22nd Street, police said. Both suspects were described as black men in their 20s or early 30s. One was heavy set, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 230 pounds with a tattoo on the right side of his neck, wearing a black T-shirt. The other man was described as taller, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, 160 pounds with a heavy beard and a white T-shirt.

The man who was shot was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he had surgery and is under police guard.

Police did not release his name.

Oak Brook Police are reviewing surveillance footage and searching for the other two men.
