WESTERN SPRINGS – St. John of the Cross Parish will host its annual family festival June 27 through 30 featuring carnival rides and games, food from local restaurants and live music.
SJC Fest 2013 is a reinvention of a festival the parish held in 2011 for its 50th anniversary. The event received positive feedback from parishioners and was therefore turned into an annual fundraising event that helps the parish defray operating costs.
The fest is highlighted by live music each night, performed under a large tent that will cover the east portion of the church's parking lot. The headliners are Maggie Speaks (Thursday), Trippin Billies (Friday), Infinity (Saturday) and Suburban Cowboys (Sunday).
Food will be available from local restaurants including Aurelio's Pizza, Buona Beef and Uncle Bub's BBQ. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be served under the music tent.
Attendees will also be able to purchase homemade goodies at an old-fashioned bake sale and participate in a raffle and silent auction.
The event opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and closes at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. A group of about 250 children from Countryside-based Helping Hand, which assists children and adults with disabilities, will have exclusive access to the carnival rides and games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
