15: Non-seniors on the Glenbard West roster this spring

Highlight: While the season didn't go exactly as planned for an inexperienced Hilltopper squad, there were a couple of memorable highlights. Glenbard West won 2-of-3 games against Hinsdale Central on April 6-8 and then beat Lake Park, which was the No. 1 seed at the St. Charles East sectional, by a 2-0 margin on May 17 behind the pitching of Grant Greeno.

Highlight: Perry Zumbrook has made a lot of progress in a short amount of time after starting the sport of gymnastics as a freshman at Glenbard West. This spring, the Hilltoppers junior finished in the top 10 in a pair of individual events at the IHSA state meet. He came in sixth on still rings with an 8.95 and and was also sixth on vault with a 9.10. Luke Skala added a ninth-place finish on pommel horse.

Highlight: The graduation of a strong senior class from the 2012 Hilltoppers team that was the first to win a conference title left plenty of unanswered questions this spring. But a younger Glenbard West squad, which featured only three seniors in Johnny Davis, Jacob Stone and Kee Gales, kept up the program's recent string of successful campaigns, finishing runner-up in the West Suburban Silver conference.

Highlight: In what turned out to be an up-and-down 2013 season for Glenbard West, the top moments might just have come in a two-day stretch in mid-May. The Hilltoppers first won on May 15 by a 2-1 margin over a York team that went on to finish fourth in Class 4A. The next day, the squad produced a 6-4 victory over powerhouse Benet. Taylor Langtry tossed back-to-back complete games, which included a combined 14 strikeouts, while Shelley Warmolts drove in both runs against York and Rachel Terwilliger paced the offense with a pair of RBIs vs. Benet.
