LOMBARD – During the last week of school, students from St. Pius X Parish School presented a painting of a lilac tree to Eileen Mueller, a member of the parish and wife of the late Village President Bill Mueller.
The students signed their names on the branches of the painted lilac tree, which bore the message, "Thank you for sowing your seeds of faith at St Pius X Parish School."
On April 19, students from the school also joined Eileen Mueller at Lombard's Village Hall where a tree was planted in Bill Mueller's honor as part of the annual Arbor Day celebration.
While he was alive, Bill Mueller was an active member of the parish and school. He was the honorary guest at the school's 2011 Neon Knights Auction, served as an usher at church, and was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Parish Council, Holy Name Society and the school board. He was also active with the Cub Scouts.
The Muellers' daughters Debbie Rapata and Donna Fruehe were also graduates of St. Pius School.
Later this year, the school will hold a special event to raise money for a gazebo being constructed on the property of the Lombard Historical Society's Victorian Cottage Museum, 23 W. Maple St., in honor of Bill Mueller.
