DuPage County to host a ceremony for first Adopt-a-Trail at Prairie Path

Published: Monday, June 24, 2013 5:00 p.m. CDT

The Volunteer Bridge at the intersection of Carlton Avenue and Liberty Street will soon have a new caretaker, according to a news release from DuPage County.

The section will soon be under the supervision of the Chicago Area Runners Association, which will be the first organization to take part in the Adopt-a-Trail program in the county. It provides an opportunity for civic or private interest groups to adopt sections of the Prairie Path and Great Western Trail for adoption. The groups will then be responsible for litter collection in the area they have adopted.

CARA is a non-profit organization that represents more than 8,600 members who use the trails regularly, according to the release.

The ceremony commemorating the adoption will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 at the bridge.
