Cicero plans events to support CeaseFire program
CICERO – This week, Cicero is hosting a series of events in support of CeaseFire, an anti-violence program launched by the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention in 1989. Its goal is to stop street violence by using outreach workers to defuse a potentially violent confrontation.
Started as a one-day national event, Cicero has expanded its programming to a
weeklong series of activities designed to draw the community together, Town Collector Fran Rietz said.
This year, a news conference was Monday, followed by a soccer tournament. On Tuesday, a Pet Parade was held, along with a volleyball camp and tournament.
