BERWYN – A ruptured gas line at a single family residence at 3137 Harlem Ave. has forced the evacuation of two neighboring apartment buildings.

NICOR crews have since capped the leak in the line, which was broken by construction workers at the home. No fire or injuries were reported.

Traffic is blocked in the 3100 and the 3200 hundred blocks of Harlem Avenue but the street is expected to be opened shortly.

Berwyn officials said Nicor was not contacted prior to construction as required by the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (JULIE), a free one-call system that tells utilities of digging or excavating plans.
