The costs of running a business seems to rise every year. At least there is one cost that has not changed – free library services.

I recently met with the La Grange Park Chamber of Commerce to share some of the great resources we have for local businesses – large, small and home-based.

One of our best business resources is our Reference Service. Not everything can be found on the Internet, and what is found there may not always be accurate. Our reference librarians can quickly and efficiently conduct searches for community members using the resources on our website, as well as additional databases we subscribe to that give us access to professional and educational journal articles.

For those who want to search for themselves, the Online Resources on our website (lplibrary.org/online-resources) can be accessed with a La Grange Park library card from anywhere you have an Internet connection. We also offer easy access without a card in the library through Wi-Fi or our computers.

A unique online resource we offer that some local nonprofits and businesses use is Mango Languages. Its tutorials can help with communicating with clients or employees, creating marketing pieces or international travel. I especially like the Learning Express Library for its business writing and public speaking tutorials, among other self-improvement topics. And, the Business and Company Resource Center on our website is helpful for gathering industry information such as investment research reports and market share data.

Other library business services include free notary public, photocopiers (10 cents/page), and printers that can be accessed from any computer using our online printing service (send your document, then stop in the library with your code to print). And, of course, we have a variety of business journals, books and other materials on our shelves.

The next time you need a sample business plan, business training, market research or help with other business matters, take advantage of the library’s many services. We are happy to help with your business needs.
