CICERO – A 64-year-old River Grove man was shot to death in an apparent armed robbery attempt at his restaurant in Cicero about 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Giovanni Donacricchia, owner of Albano's pizzeria, 5913 W. Roosevelt Road, was shot when he confronted a male suspect who walked in with a revolver. Donacricchia was shot once in the chest.

Donacricchia was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:56 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police Superintendent Bernard Harrison said investigators have been working diligently collecting evidence at the scene and have a good description of the suspect as well as possible fingerprints.

"Mr. Donancricchia was a well-liked person in the community and we share with his family the grief they must be experiencing today," Cicero spokesman Ray Hanania said.
