A special thanks for your support of a special cause
In the past few months, the Berwyn Police Department has taken part in the Tip-a-Cop and Cop-on-the-Roof fundraising events in order to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Illinois. Thanks to the unparalleled generosity of many, the Berwyn Police Department raised more than $11,000 for Special Olympics in these events. Both campaigns are part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run that supports Special Olympics in hosting year-round sports training and competitions for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
On May 31, the Berwyn Police Department partnered with Dunkin’ Donuts for the statewide Cop-on-the-Roof event at 6601 W. Cermak Road. Berwyn Police Department personnel who volunteered and worked the event raised over $5,300 for Special Olympics. Thanks to everyone’s support of this event, we are extremely proud to say that the Berwyn Police Department finished fourth in the state in raising the most money that day.
On April 22, Berwyn police personnel traded in their uniforms and gear to put on Special Olympics apparel to host our first ever Tip-a-Cop event in partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings. More than 40 Berwyn Police Department volunteers worked with Buffalo Wild Wings servers to wait on and bus tables, cook, earn tips and greet customers and guests throughout the lunchtime and evening festivities. Throughout the evening, standing room only crowds waited for tables to support the efforts of many. This tremendously successful event raised more than $5,600 as Buffalo Wild Wings donated 10 percent of the food register receipts for that day along with the tips received by police volunteers to Special Olympics.
