WEST CHICAGO – West Chicago Mayor Ruben Pineda recently honored several students in the city for their academic achievements.

Pineda attended the Kumon Math and Reading Center's first annual awards ceremony earlier this month. The center, located at Tower Station at 946 N. Neltnor Ave., recognized several students who made great strides in their studies and now study above their grade level.

Pineda also addressed attendees at the West Chicago Middle School eighth grade graduation ceremony June 14, reminding students of the opportunities that lie ahead of them in high school. The mayor was a graduate himself of the middle school and told students about the impact many of his teachers and mentors had on his life.
