Fire department responds to basement fire on West Street

WHEATON – A fire broke out at 7:30 p.m. July 18 in the basement of DuPage Orthodontics at 300 S. West St., according to a release by the city.

Upon arrival, crews discovered that the fire had been extinguished by several sprinkler heads. While fire and water damage was confined to the basement, there were extensive smoke conditions throughout the building, according to the release. It was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department and the DuPage County Fire Investigation Taskforce conducted an investigation, but the cause of the fire is undetermined and damage estimates are currently unavailable.
