Downers Grove Village Council to debate membership in state legislature lobbying group

Published: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 11:00 a.m. CDT

DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Village Council will vote Tuesday evening whether or not to renew its membership with the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference for 2013 and 2014.

Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully is currently vice president of the group, which lobbies state legislators on behalf of DuPage County municipalities.

Membership is $36,776.40 for the year. That cost gave some village commissioners pause at last week's meeting, when it was first discussed.

Tully expressed support for the group and said that when the 1 million-plus population of DuPage County lobbies collectively in Springfield, it has more pull than if the village were to lobby on its own.

Commissioner Becky Rheintgen said she may vote against it because of the expense.

The regularly scheduled council meeting is at 7 p.m. at village hall.
