New state vaccination requirements for students take effect in fall
BERWYN – The Illinois Department of Public Health has made a change to the required school vaccines for children in grades six to 12.
New state-enforced vaccination requirements will take effect in the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.
Beginning fall 2013, all students entering, advancing, or transferring into sixth through 12th grades will be required to show proof of receipt of one dose of Tdap vaccine regardless of the interval since the last DTaP, DT or Td dose.
Children will need this dose of Tdap to begin school. If a child already has received this vaccine, proof must be submitted to the school nurse at the time of a child’s registration.
If a child has not received this immunization, parents or guardians must make an appointment with the doctor or health department.
