Elmhurst radio club to compete in national contest

Published: Monday, June 17, 2013 11:49 a.m. CDT

ELMHURST – The York Radio Club of Elmhurst will show non-members how to use a short-wave radio as part of the American Radio Relay League's annual Field Day Contest.

The more visitors the York Radio Club has, the more points they earn during the 24-hour contest. The national contest also simulates an emergency situation where Ham radio operators across the country will practice their response as if normal power sources were unavailable.

The contest runs from 1 p.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Sunday. All are invited to stop by Addison Village Green, 1 Friendship Plaza, Addison, to learn more about the York Radio Club or short-wave radios.
