AMI offers contest for music scholarship

CLARENDON HILLS – Anyone who has ever dreamed of playing the violin like Bach, the piano like Beethoven or the guitar like Jimmy Page is now in luck.

The American Music Institute is offering a scholarship through Facebook valued at $1,500 for one year of free music lessons for violin, piano or guitar.

Those interested can submit a post or campaign on AMI's Facebook page. The person with the most "likes" with at least 500 will win one year of free tuition for their intended instrument to study at AMI.

"We're looking for people that obviously are enthusiastic about performing music and why they should play and why people should support them," said Nicci Menotti, administrative assistant at AMI.

Menotti said AMI is looking for the person who wants to use a scholarship for future music performances, help with tuition or just taking lessons. She said no experience with any of the instruments was necessary; the contest is open to all ages and everyone in the area.

"Whatever the case may be, we're looking for hardworking students that want to play these instruments and continue with this," she said.

There is a limit of one post/campaign per family and the deadline for submission is July 31.

AMI is located at 60 55th St. in Clarendon Hills and 307 Cedar Ave., St. Charles. For more information, visit amimusic.org or facebook.com/americanmusicinstitue, or call 630-850-8505.
