Community support revives West Chicago's Mexican Independence Day Celebration
WEST CHICAGO – After West Chicago's Mexican Independence Day Celebration was canceled last year due to a lack of volunteers and vendors, the event is back and better than ever this year due to strong community support.
An active committee formed earlier in the year to plan the city's celebration, which will take place from noon until 8 p.m. Sept. 15 along Main Street.
“This event has been reinvigorated by the energy of a group of people who didn’t want to see a 21-year-old tradition die," Mayor Ruben Pineda said in a city news release. "They stepped up to the plate and brought a fresh enthusiasm for sharing their love for the culture, traditions and heritage of Mexico."
