LOMBARD – A 67-year-old Lombard man was killed Thursday afternoon after being thrown from a recreational vehicle that flipped on the highway in Hernando County, Fla., according to media reports.
The victim, Robert Stratton, was the passenger in an RV that was traveling northbound on Florida's Interstate 57. His wife, Patricia Stratton, 66, was driving the vehicle as it towed another car and lost control while heading into a curve on the road, according to media reports.
The vehicle traveled to the outside emergency lane, where she overcorrected and went across the road into an inside lane before overcorrecting again and traveling back to the outside lane and struck a guardrail. The impact of this crash caused the RV to flip.
Robert Stratton was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Patricia Stratton was taken to a local hospital and listed in serious condition. Neither passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time, according to media reports.
