Wheaton domestic violence nonprofit receives $5,000 grant

WHEATON – A Wheaton domestic violence nonprofit has been awarded a grant from the Illinois Bar Foundation for its work as a legal aid organization, according to a release.

Family Shelter Services offers residential, counseling and community advocacy programs to victims of domestic violence. It has emergency and immediate housing facilities, a 24-hour hotline, counseling for children and adults and more. The Bar Foundation awarded the nonprofit $5,000, which the release says will support the Victim and Court Advocacy Program, which provides support and information to approximately 1,100 clients and 6,000 non-clients per year.

The grant was one of 44 grants totaling $335,000 that the Illinois Bar Foundation has distributed this year across Cook County and north, central and southern Illinois.
